Okay, Frontier Fam, this one is reeeeeal important. So, SIT, STAY, and read about SUNSCREEN! Good boy.
Why do I need to wear sunscreen?
Well, UV rays that travel to Earth from the Sun damage your DNA. This damage to your skin cells causes early wrinkles, liver spots, and skin cancer. WOOF! Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the USA; over 2 million people per year are treated for various skin cancers. Everybody, regardless of skin tone, needs to wear sunscreen when outdoors. The best way to prevent these evil rays from getting to your DNA is by wearing sunscreen.
What kind of sunscreen is best?
Broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays is best. SPF 30 or higher is ideal. Make sure to reapply often, especially after you get sweaty or go swimming. Head on down to Frontier to get more recommendations from Dr. Mel.
Don't I need to get my Vitamin-D?
Why yes, you do! Luckily we sell vitamin-D over the counter in pill and liquid form, at Frontier!
Do animals get sunburned?
Thank you for your concern. I've got a coat of nice grayish-brownish fur to help protect me; however, I can still get burned! Yow! If you see red or pink skin, especially near the ears, eyes, and nose, it could mean a dog like myself (or kitty) got burned! Please keep us out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day, and pick up some dog sunscreen at your local pet store to help keep us safe. Don't use human sunscreen on us, as it can be toxic! Grrrrr!
ALSO: If the pavement is too hot for your hands, it's too hot for our feet! Please keep us off the pavement, especially black pavement, during the hot day.
Well, that's all for now, friends! (Safely) enjoy the sunshine, and see you at Frontier!
Sincerely,
Simon
